Cats Protection asked Mushroom Marketing to help publicise their brand new Homing Centre in Ferndown– which aims to make adopting a cat from the charity quicker and easier. The objectives for the project were to help publicise the homing centre’s first ever open day before and on the day of the event itself, to local press, TV, radio as well as social media.

Cats Protection liked our idea of a schools competition, to ask pupils from local schools to draw a picture of what they thought the new homing centre would look like and to write some accompanying text - entries could be as creative as pupils liked.  So, we put together competition packs and liaised with local schools to send in their fantastic entries.  We also arranged a media partner for the competition and arranged for Reham Khan, weather lady from BBC South Today to come and help launch the open day together with the Mayor of Ferndown and the Town Crier.  We also sent out press releases to relevant press before the event and invited journalists to attend the day itself.

The competition and open day attracted a lot of media attention.  We gained at least 20 pieces of PR coverage (including BBC South Today TV coverage, radio interviews, front page news stories and social media posts/ interactions) for our client.  The competition and the open day were a great success and we thoroughly enjoyed working on this project with Cats Protection!

Client Testimonial

“We are very impressed with Mushroom Marketing’s support of the Ferndown Homing Centre Open Day. The key objective was to attract as many visitors as possible to the open day and Mushroom Marketing helped to do this by organising a competition which caught the imagination of local schools and resulted in a number of local children and their parents coming to the Open Day to hear the result. Securing Reham Khan was also key as she is a well-known face in Dorset and her visit to the centre also guaranteed the attendance of a BBC South Today film crew! What really stood out for us throughout the campaign was Mushroom Marketing’s creativity - particularly with regard to digital media - their attention to detail and their quick and efficient response to requests. The media coverage that was secured definitely exceeded our expectations – given this was not an official launch for the centre but an Open Day – and we are very grateful to Mushroom Marketing for all of their help.”
