Mushroom Marketing has been entered in the 'not for profit' category of the CIPR (Chartered Institute of PR) Awards.  Wish us luck!

Cats Protection’s Media Office asked two PR agencies to pitch for the chance to help publicise their brand new Homing Centre in Ferndown– which aims to make adopting a cat from the charity quicker and easier. The objectives for the project were to help publicise the homing centre’s first ever open day before and on the day of the event itself, to local press, TV, radio as well as social media. They wanted the agency to suggest a fun and innovative event to which the media could be invited, and that would attract as many people as possible to visit the centre on the day. In addition, we noted that Cats Protection tends to adopt lots of cats to families, so we took this into account with our ideas. Mushroom Marketing won the pitch as Cats Protection especially liked our schools competition concept and premise (to draw a picture of what the pupils thought the homing centre would look like inside or outside, and to write some accompanying text, which could be as creative as pupils liked). This would also help to bring in families to the open day, where the winner would be announced, and would also help attract local media attendance.

We gained over 20 pieces of PR coverage, including coverage on BBC South Today.  In addition, over 500 people came to the open day; a total of £3,200 was raised and 25 of the centre’s cats were reserved on the day itself by owners, pending a home visit by the charity. The Homing Centre has on display the framed winning schools competition entry, leaving a lasting legacy, and pupils from the winning school will be given a VIP tour around the centre.
